The Faith to Fight: When You’re Too Numb to Pray

When the radiologist finished talking, Julie couldn’t hear another word. His lips moved, but her heart had already shut down. She was supposed to be there for a routine mammogram—not a death sentence.

She walked out in silence, found her car, and sat alone with her thoughts. The darkness was real, and the fear tried to flood in. The medical report said, “It’s pretty bad.” But God had already whispered something else to her heart:

“I believe the report of the Lord.”

Faith Isn’t Denial—It’s a Decision

We are not here to pretend that a cancer diagnosis isn’t terrifying. The numbness is real. But faith doesn’t deny the facts—it looks beyond them.

“We walk by faith, not by sight.” —2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

Faith says, “I see the report. I hear the doctor. But I believe the truth of God’s Word even more.”

Faith gives you the strength to face the facts without being crushed by them.

From Survival Mode to Spiritual Strength

As shared in the book, The Report, Julie wasn’t a stranger to faith. Her life had already been through enough to know “where my help comes from.” But even then, she needed to lean hard into God to keep her footing.

Here’s what helped:

  • Worship in the midst of worry

  • Scripture louder than symptoms

  • Declarations instead of despair

Every time her thoughts tried to spiral, she went back to the truth:

“By His stripes, I am healed.” —Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” —Psalm 118:17 (KJV)

What to Say When You Don’t Know What to Pray

If you’re too overwhelmed to find the words, start with this:

“God, I believe You. Even now. Even here. I don’t understand the report, but I trust You more than I fear it. Help me stand firm in faith.”

And then, speak this declaration:

“Growths and tumors have no right to my body. I am delivered from the authority of darkness.” —based on Colossians 1:13-14

Hold On to the Healer

You may feel shaken. You may feel weak. But God’s healing is not based on your strength—it’s based on His promise.

He sees you. He’s with you. And He’s already made a way.

Choose to believe the report of the Lord.
